Melodic Minor Scale

Melodic minor is the natural minor scale with both the sixth and seventh raised. It smooths out the wide leap of harmonic minor while keeping the strong leading tone. Classical practice lowers both notes again on the way down; jazz keeps the ascending form throughout.

The Melodic Minor scale follows the step pattern W–H–W–W–W–W–H, where H is a half step and W is a whole step.
