What is the Lydian Dominant scale?

Lydian dominant is the fourth mode of melodic minor — a major scale with a raised fourth and a lowered seventh. It is the standard choice over an unresolved dominant seventh sharp eleven chord, and it is sometimes called the acoustic or overtone scale.

F♯ Lydian Dominant uses the same notes as C♯ Melodic Minor, started from degree 4 instead of the first. The notes are shared; the tonic, and therefore the sound, is not.

F♯ Lydian Dominant is a scale, not a key. It has no key signature of its own — music that uses it is normally written in the key signature of its parent scale, with any extra accidentals added as they occur.
