What is the Locrian scale?

Locrian is the seventh mode of the major scale — a minor scale with both a lowered second and a lowered fifth. Because the fifth is diminished the tonic chord is unstable, so Locrian is used over half-diminished chords rather than as a key.

A Locrian uses the same notes as B♭ Majeur, started from degree 7 instead of the first. The notes are shared; the tonic, and therefore the sound, is not.

A Locrian is a scale, not a key. It has no key signature of its own — music that uses it is normally written in the key signature of its parent scale, with any extra accidentals added as they occur.
